Our Panasonic DVD/Blu Ray player (connected to a std. HD TV with a HDMI cable and wirelessly connected to a router) is the "smart" thing.

Streams Netflix, good for free Skype calls and a lot of other things that we don't use. Internet speed capability of 6 Mbps helps, otherwise streaming bogs, if I'm downloading at the same time. A wired connection to the router might help a bit.

ive got a samsung 46'' led smart tv and i love it. netflix streams solid with no lag or having to wait for anything to load. even surfing the internet is smooth.

I have a couple of different panasonic TVs. One is a smart TV. the other older one I use a ROKU3. In both cases I can stream HD quality from netflix, hulu plus, hbogo, youtube (not on Roku), etc. One is connected via ethernet. The other is connected using "ethernet over powerline" plugs.

Regarding music quality for music streaming services, pandora is 128k, haven't tried spotify on smartTV but spotify on my squeezebox network streamers is mostly 320kbs.
